Egypt’s coach Rui Vitoria praised his team’s performance in the 1-1 draw with Algeria on Monday, despite playing with 10 men for most of the game.

A late header by Islam Slimani canceled out Hamdy Fathy's 61st minute late.

“We performed well. Even after the red card, we maintained our high level of play.” Vitoria said in a press conference after the match.

Egypt defender Mohamed Hany received a direct red card after 26 minutes only for a reckless challenge on Ahmed Touba.

“I am pleased with the team's performance and the players' effort, regardless of the result,” he added.

“The players performed at a high level and executed the game plan perfectly. The Egyptian people should be proud of their team and players,” he said.

Egypt had the best of chances as Mohamed Salah hit the bar and Mahmoud Trezeguet, Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed squandered some easy chances to secure the victory.

“It is difficult for a shorthanded team to create chances like we did today. Chances depend on the players' enthusiasm, ambition, and movement on the field during the match.” he continued.

“Creating many chances makes me happy because it shows the players' ability to translate their movements into opportunities,” he concluded.

The friendly match in the United Arab Emirates was the last warm-up for both teams before they resume their African World Cup qualifying campaigns next month.
