The Liverpool forward Salah is among 30 players shortlisted for the continent's top individual honour, which he won in 2017 and 2018.
The 31-year-old has scored 10 goals in 13 appearances for his club this season and also helped Egypt qualify for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d'Ivoire.
Salah will face competition from other Egyptian players such as Mahmoud Abdel Moneim "Kahraba," Mohamed Abdelmonem, and Mohamed El Shenawy, who all play for Al Ahly, the reigning CAF Champions League winners.
South African striker Percy Tau, who plays for Al Ahly, is also a contender for the award, thanks to his strong performances.
However, Salah's national team failed to make the cut for the CAF National Team of the Year award, which has 10 nominees, including Morocco, Senegal, and Tanzania.
CAF also revealed the nominees for other men's categories, such as CAF Interclub Player of the Year, CAF Young Player of the Year, and CAF African Goalkeeper of the Year.
