However, Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has been excluded from the squad.

The Pharaohs are gearing up to participate in a friendly tournament in the UAE, scheduled to take place between 22 and 26 March. The tournament will feature Tunisia, Croatia, and New Zealand as the other participating teams.

Egypt will commence the tournament against New Zealand on 22nd March, and the winner of that match will face the winner between Tunisia and Croatia.

Salah, the Premier League's top scorer last season, leads the list of seven foreign-based call-ups, alongside Trabzonspor winger Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ Hassan.

Egypt's iconic striker, Hossam Hassan, has also called up Al-Wakrah SC midfielder Hamdi Fathi, Ittihad Jeddah defender Ahmed Hegazy, and Khaleej FC striker Mohamed Sherif to join the squad.

Rounding out the squad are Eintracht Frankfurt winger Omar Marmoush and Nantes striker Mostafa Mohamed.

Hassan, 57, is taking charge of the Pharaohs for the first time, after being appointed following the dismissal of Portuguese coach Rui Vitoria on 4th February. Vitoria was fired after failing to guide the record seven-time CAF Africa Nations Cup champions past the round of 16.

Egypt, who were finalists in the 2022 AFCON edition, failed to win a game in the 34th edition of the tournament in Cote d'Ivoire and were eliminated by DR Congo in a penalty shootout.

Hossam Hassan holds the title of Egypt's all-time top scorer, with 69 goals in 178 appearances.
