The Pharaohs will face New Zealand in the Capital Cup on Friday, with the winner advancing to the final against the winner of the match between Croatia and Tunisia on Tuesday.

Originally scheduled to take place in the United Arab Emirates, the tournament was moved to Egypt.

Despite the limited preparation time, Hassan, who was named as the Pharaohs' coach last month, insisted on participating in the friendly tournament.

"The tournament is very important for me and the team, " Hossam Hassan told a news conference on Wednesday

"We will be aiming for positive results and improved team performance to boost our confidence for upcoming commitments."

"I insisted on playing this tournament because it is the only opportunity to prepare my players before the 2026 World Cup qualifiers," Hassan added.

Egypt's 2026 World Cup qualifiers campaign will begin on 3 rd June with a home match against Burkina Faso, followed by an away game against Guinea Bissau a week later.

They are placed in Group A alongside Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Sierra Leone.

When asked about his player selections, Hossam Hassan stated that he called up the best players of the current period and emphasized that the door is open for any player who can convince the technical staff.

"There is no significant difference between the players, but priority will be given to those capable of applying my tactics," he explained.

"Every step has its requirements, and the Capital Cup is just the beginning. "

"The national team's door is open to all players in Egypt".

"Under my guidance, no player is guaranteed a place in the Pharaohs squad. "

"Any player who performs strongly with their club will have a chance to join the Pharaohs," he concluded.
