Egypt coach Hossam Hassan has called up Ahly full back Omar Kamal for the World Cup qualifiers against Burkina Faso and Guinea-Bissau to replace Ahmed Fatouh who has been ruled out due to an ankle injury, the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) announced on Monday.

Zamalek's 26-year-old defender sustained the injury during training on Sunday and underwent x-rays which confirmed the extent of the damage.

The EFA stated that Fatouh's participation in the upcoming matches is highly unlikely.

This comes as a blow to the Pharaohs' backline, as Mohamed Hamdi, the second left-back option, is also unavailable for the Burkina Faso match due to a suspension picked up in the Africa Cup of Nations loss to DR Congo.

Egypt will face Burkina Faso on 6 June before taking on Guinea-Bissau on 10 June in their opening fixtures of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The Pharaohs opened their qualifying campaign with convincing wins over Djibouti (6-0) and Sierra Leone (2-0).
