The Djibouti national team had previously suffered three consecutive defeats in the group, including a recent loss to Sierra Leone (2-1) on Wednesday.
Striker Gabriel Dadzie gave Djibouti the lead in the 29th minute, but Ethiopia quickly responded two minutes later with a goal from Minyelu Wondimu, leveling the score.
The match ended in a draw, granting Djibouti their first point in the qualifiers.
Djibouti remain at the bottom of the group with a single point from four games, while Ethiopia sit in fifth place with three points from the same number of matches.
Egypt lead the group with a perfect record of nine points from three games.
The upcoming match will see Egypt face Guinea Bissau on Monday, while Burkina Faso hosts Sierra Leone on the same day.
