Fouad suffered a knee contusion during training on Thursday, prompting national team doctor Ayman Zain to administer initial treatment before sending the player for further checks at Aspetar Hospital in Doha.
Zain said medical tests revealed a sprain in Fouad’s medial collateral ligament as well as a sprain affecting the graft of his anterior cruciate ligament. The full-back will require conservative treatment for four to six weeks.
The injury sidelines the 26-year-old from coach Helmi Toulan’s plans for the rest of the tournament.
Egypt face the United Arab Emirates on Saturday in their second Group C match.
