The Pharaohs sit second in Group C on two points, with the UAE and Kuwait third and fourth, respectively, on one point each. Jordan have already sealed a quarter-final berth after winning their opening two matches.
Helmi Toulan’s side must win to qualify. A draw would leave the Pharaohs dependent on the result of the UAE–Kuwait match to determine their fate.
Toulan said he remained confident his squad could reach the last eight despite an underwhelming start.
“I have big confidence in my players and their ability to reach the next round through the last game of the group stage,” he was quoted as saying on the Egyptian Football Association’s official Facebook page.
“The technical staff prepared the team for similar situations, and now we are ready for the Jordan game,” he added.
Egypt last met Jordan in the 2021 Arab Cup, winning 3-1 after extra time in the quarter-finals.
Meanwhile, Jordan coach Jamal Sellami hinted he may rest several key players against Egypt after his side secured qualification for the quarter-finals.
“We achieved our target from the group stage by reaching the quarter-finals, so we have a chance to rest some players,” Sellami told a pre-match press conference.
With the Africa Cup of Nations set for 21 December to 18 January in Morocco, the EFA opted in May to send a B team to the Arab Cup while the senior squad prepares for the continental tournament.
Egypt won the Arab Cup in 1992 and finished fourth in 2021.
