The Pharaohs have no opponent for their next fixture
The Egypt-Jordan friendly game scheduled for 16 December was unexpectedly cancelled, “because the company in charge of organizing the event didn’t respect the agreement and so the deal is off,” a statement on the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) website announced Saturday without disclosing further details.
Despite attempts by EFA President Samir Zaher to save the situation by requesting direct negotiations with Jordanian officials, talks reportedly collapsed, the statement said. It confirmed that there are ongoing negotiations with numerous parties to find an alternate opponent for this fixture.
“Our camp will start on December 11thand we will announce the squad a day before,” assistant coach of the Pharaohs Shawky Gharieb was quoted saying on the EFA website.
The game against Jordan has been plagued with problems and tensions. Most recently, the match was rescheduled from October to December before its eventual cancellation.
