Egypt coach Bradley calls up 27 players for the game against Guinea in the 2014 World Cup qualifiers, including Ahly’s striker Gedo who has just returned from a three-month layoff

Ahly striker Mohamed Nagy "Gedo" has been named in Egypt's provisional squad for the 10 September World Cup qualifier at home to Guinea after recovering from a foot injury that sidelined him for three months.

The 28-year-old underwent a foot surgery after sustaining the injury in May while on loan at then English second-division side Hull City, whom he helped seal promotion to the elite Premier League.

Gedo, best known for scoring five goals to help Egypt win the 2010 African Cup of Nations, missed the Pharaohs’ World Cup qualifying wins over Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Egypt’s American coach Bob Bradley has also picked nine foreign-based players, including forgotten striker Amr Zaki of Kuwait’s Al-Salmiya as he seeks to find a reliable hitman who can spearhead the team’s frontline ahead of the anticipated two-legged World Cup qualifying playoff next month.

The full squad is expected to be unveiled on Sunday after Zamalek host South Africa’s Orlando Pirates in the African Champions League.

Egypt’s game at home to Guinea is largely meaningless after the seven-time African Champions had ensured they would finish on top of Group G with one game to spare after becoming the only African team to collect maximum 15 points from five matches.

They are anxiously waiting for the 16 September draw to learn who they would face in the final two-legged playoff as they seek to reach the World Cup for the first time since 1990.

The Guinea match will be played at the 80,000-seat Borg El-Arab Stadium in Alexandria, albeit behind closed doors due to lingering security concerns.
