Egypt's injury-prone defender Ahmed Hegazy has been left out of Fiorentina's squad for the Europa League despite recovering from niggling knee injuries that sidelined him for a lengthy spell.

The 23-year-old's omission will cast doubts over his future with the Italian Serie A side, for whom he has made a few appearances since joining from Egypt's Ismaily in the summer of 2012.

Hegazy's previous two seasons were disrupted by two knee injuries.

He ruptured a cruciate ligament in his knee in December 2012 before suffering a similar injury almost a year later while on international duty with the Egyptian national team.

Hegazy has made only four appearances in all competitions since joining Fiorentina, scoring one goal in an Italian Cup clash against lower division side Juve Stabia in November 2012.

He was kept on the bench as Fiorentina opened their new Serie A campaign with a 2-0 loss to AS Roma.

Having fully recovered from his injury, Hegazy was selected in Egypt's squad for their opening African Cup of Nations qualifier away to Senegal on Friday.

Fiorentina were drawn in Group K of the Europa League along with French club Guingamp, Belarusian side Dinamo Minsk and Greece's PAOK.
