FC Basel coach Paulo Sousa says he has full confidence in the club's forward Ahmed Hamoudi, insisting that the Egyptian international could start in Saturday's league match against FC Sion.

Hamoudi, 24, has only featured with Basel nine times in the Swiss league since joining them, after leaving Egypt's Smouha during the summer transfer window to play alongside countryman Mohamed Elneny.

"I have a lot of confidence in Hamoudi. He could be available today from the start against FC Sion," the Portuguese coach Sousa was quoted as saying on Basel's official website.

In the upcoming Saturday game, Basel will suffer from the absence of striking duo Marco Streller and Shkelzen Gashi due to their suspension. The Egyptian player could be the solution according to his coach.

"I have confidence in Derlis González, Yoichiro Kakitani, Albian Ajeti and Hmoudi- all of them will appear against Sion," the coach explained.

In nine league appearances, Hamoudi scored only one goal with Basel this season. He also played twice with the Swiss side in the domestic competition and four times in the Champions league.

Basel is currently leading the Swiss league table with 61 points, 10 ahead of second placed Young Boys.
