Roma's Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah was dismissed from the shortlist of nominees for the 2015 African Player of the Year Award on Monday after being included in the last 10.

The 23-year-old international made a great impact in the Serie A this year, scoring six goals in 16 appearances with Fiorentina before netting five more with Roma, where he has been plying his trade since last summer.

Salah had been out of action for a month after sustaining an ankle ligament injury he sustained in the Rome derby against Lazio on 8 November.

The top three contenders for the 2015 African Player of the Year were unveiled at a press conference on Monday. The players are Ghana's Andre Ayew who plays for Swansea City, Gabon's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who plays for Borussia Dortmund and Ivory Coast's Yaya Toure who plays for Manchester City.

The winner will be decided by a vote of national team coaches in Africa and announced on 7 January at a ceremony in Abuja, Nigeria.
