Arsene Wenger has praised Arsenal's newly-signed Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny only two days after the former Basel star completed his move to the Gunners.

"He's a young, promising player who has adapted to Europe," Wenger said at the team's weekly press conference on Friday.

The 23-year-old midfielder is a product of the youth academy of Cairo giants Ahly but made his name with fellow Egyptian club Arab Contractors.

Elneny has produced some superb displays this season, scoring six goals in all competitions with Basel - two in the Swiss league, two in the Europa League and two in the Swiss Cup.

Arsenal, who lead the Premier league team table with 43 points, are bidding to win the elite title for the first time since 2004.

They will face Stoke City on Sunday at 18:15 Cairo local time (GMT+2).

"He's available for selection for the Stoke City game," Wenger said of Elneny.
