Egypt winger Mohamed Salah ended a seven-match goal drought in the Italian Serie A to set AS Roma on their way to a 2-0 victory over Sassuolo on Tuesday.
The 23-year-old, who played on the right of a three-pronged frontline, curled a superb left-foot shot home from the edge of the area to put Roma ahead after 11 minutes.
Stephan El Shaarawy made it 2-0 deep in stoppage time with a simple finish, shortly after Sassuolo had wasted a penalty.
Salah scored his first goal since finding the net in Roma's 2-1 victory over former club Fiorentina, where he spent the second half of last season on loan, in October.
He almost created two goals but veteran full-back Maicon and new recruit Stephan El Shaarawy spurned the clear-cut chances.
On 32 minutes, Salah released Maicon after a neat one-two but the Brazilian, who broke clear, sent his shot wide of the post.
One minute later, a Salah cross eluded the keeper and found El Shaarawy who, under pressure from a defender, skied his effort high over with the goal at his mercy.
He could have also netted his second of the night ten minutes after the restart when he latched onto a threaded pass from Miralem Pjanic and held off his challenger to go clear but his tame low shot was easily collected by the keeper.
Salah, who spent a month on the sidelines due to injury late last year, has scored six Serie A goals and one UEFA Champions League goal so far this season.
