Ahmed Elmohamady created a goal in the opening day of the Premier League season
Liverpool rued a missed penalty and a disallowed goal as they drew 1-1 at home to Sunderland on the opening day of the Premier League season on Saturday.
The hosts went ahead through Luis Suarez’s 12th-minute header but an earlier miss by the Uruguayan from the spot and a disallowed Andy Carroll effort allowed Sunderland to stay in the game.
Sunderland secured a share of spoils through a superb 57th-minute goal from winger Sebastian Larsson, who was set up by Egyptian right-winger Ahmed Elmohamady.
Elmohamady, starting on the right of a four-man midfield, whipped in a superb cross at the back post for Larsson to send a great volley past Liverpool keeper Jose Reina.
The Egyptian international, who spent the last season on loan at Sunderland before earning a permanent stay in the close season, had sent in some fine crosses and had a tame header saved by Reina earlier in the game.
