Egyptian star duo Mohamed Elneny and Omar Gaber could potentially meet at the UEFA Champions League group stage after Arsenal and Swiss league holders Basel were drawn together in Group A.

The Champions League draw on Thursday has seen Arsenal, Basel, Paris Saint-Germain and Bulgaria's Ludogorets all drawn in the same group, although Egyptian fans will be particularly anticipating the Arsenal-Basel meetings due to the presence of the two popular players.

Elneny, who sealed his move to Arsenal from Basel early this year, featured for the Premier League runners-up in the opening 4-1 home defeat to Liverpool before being relegated to the bench in the following a goalless draw with titleholders Leicester City.

Right-back Gaber, meanwhile, has featured three times for Basel since joining the club from Zamalek in the close season, playing a full 90 minutes in two league games and a single cup fixture.

Whether there will be a clash between the Egypt midfielder and full-back remains to be seen, with the dates of the Champions League group-stage fixtures, which kick off on 13 September, yet to be determined.
