Egypt and Borussia Dortmund forward Mohamed Zidan netted his side’s first goal in a 3-0 friendly victory over Belgium’s Standard Liege on Saturday.

The 30-year-old, who is blighted by constant injury problems, opened the scoring after 26 minutes to stake his claims for a place in Dortmund’s squad after recent reports linked him with a move away from the Bundesliga holders.

The Egyptian international suffered from a tendon inflammation in his left thigh that sidelined him for a long time this season.

Zidan, who made just two substitute appearances this term, failed to reclaim his place in the team’s starting line-up again after recovering from the serious injury.

Title holders Dortmund are second in the league table with 34 points, three behind leaders Bayern Munich.
