Egypt midfielder Ali Ghazal said that his contract with his current Canadian club, the Vancouver Whitecaps, has come to an end, but he has the option to renew it for one more season.

“I have the option to renew it for a year. I may stay or leave,” Ghazal told an Egyptian television station on Monday.

Ghazal said that after the end of Major League Soccer (MLS) a few weeks ago, he decided to return to Egypt and train with his former club Wadi Degla while awaiting the national team camp.

Replying to a question on whether his decision indicates his return to playing in Egypt, he said: “My presence in Degla doesn’t mean anything. For me, it is too early to return to Egypt.”

Ghazal has been a key player for the Egypt national team since the appointment of the Pharaohs’ current coach Javier Aguirre in August, featuring in two out of three games under the Mexican manager.
