Egyptian midfielder Sam Morsy has signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract with his English club Wigan Athletic, the club announced via their official website on Tuesday.

Morsy’s new contract means that the Latics captain is staying with his team until the summer of 2021.

The 27-year-old midfielder, who has exceeded 100 appearances with Wigan, had featured with Egypt in the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and has a tally of seven outings with the Pharaohs.

“Samy is a really important player for the club and I know our supporters will be really pleased with this news,” coach Paul Cook was quoted as saying after Morsy’s contract extension.

Morsy has made 20 appearances with Wigan in the Championship so far, scoring once as his team sit 19th in the standings.
