Turkish giants Besiktas have reached an agreement with Arsenal to acquire Egypt's Mohamed Elneny on loan for a season, with the player scheduled to arrive in Turkey 21:00 Cairo local time (GMT+2), according to Besiktas football director Ali Naibi.

"We have reached an agreement with Arsenal to transfer Mohamed Elneny. If the player passes the medical examinations successfully, we will add him to our squad until the end of the season," Naibi told TRT Sport on Friday.

"In the last three and a half years Elneny has played nearly 100 matches with Arsenal, in addition to 75 games with his national team. After Gary Medel left the team, we were searching for an experienced midfielder.

"I think we've made a significant boost to this area by including Elneny. We are sure that he will make a very important contribution to us," he added.

The 27-year-old Egyptian midfielder joined the English Premier League team in January 2016 from Switzerland's FC Basel.

Arsenal's Spanish coach Unai Emery revealed earlier this month that Elneny and German defender Shkodran Mustafi are not in his plans for the new season.

"Last year with Mustafi and Mo, when they didn’t play they weren’t happy and I spoke with them a lot of times last year and this pre-season and I think it is positive for them to leave and sign for another team where they can be protagonists and be happy and continue their careers," Emery was quoted as saying by the Daily Mail.

Elneny has been sought by other Turkish clubs like Fenerbahce and Galatasaray, and was also linked with a move to French side Bordeaux at the beginning of the current transfer market.
