Mohamed Zidan is enjoying the new-found joy after making a superb start to his third stint with Mainz, scoring three goals in as many Bundesliga appearances.
The Egypt forward left league champions Dortmund in the January transfer window in search of more regular first-team football, and his decision to return to Mainz immediately paid off.
He scored in three successive 1-1 draws with Schalke, Hannover and Hoffenheim.
“I play here with great joy. I enjoy working out with his team,” Zidan said on Mainz’s official website following Friday’s draw with Hoffenheim.
Despite Zidan’s blistering form, Mainz are struggling in the Bundesliga. They lie 12th in the 18-team table on 24 points from 22 matches.
“I hope it works out finally with a win. We just have to fight on then a win will come soon,” added the 30-year-old, who enjoyed two highly-successful spells with Mainz between 2005 and 2007.
“I've heard that the fans want a win against Kaiserslautern. We want to give them this derby victory.”
