Egyptian forward Mohamed Zidan returned to goal-scoring form to help Mainz to a 4-0 home victory over Cologne in the German Bundesliga on Tuesday.
Polish midfielder Eugen Polanski put Mainz ahead when he converted a penalty after 20 minutes.
Zidan, making his first start in three games, doubled the lead 11 minutes later with a neat first-timer from inside the area after Nicolai Muller headed a cross into his path.
It was his first goal since finding the net in Mainz’s 2-1 victory over Nurnberg on 10 March.
The 30-year-old, who made an impressive start to his third Mainz stint after scoring six goals in consecutive games, stayed on the bench during the team’s 3-0 victory over Werder Bremen and came on as a second-half substitute in last weekend’s 4-1 defeat by Stuttgart.
Muller added the third against Cologne in the 37th minute and Hungarian striker Adam Szalai completed the rout nine minutes after the restart.
The win put Mainz in 11th place in the 18-team Bundesliga table with 36 points from 30 matches.
