A second straight Premier League crown for Liverpool seems a distant possibility but Mohamed Salah made an emotional promise to the team's faithful that he and his teammates "will fight like champions".
The Reds, whose campaign has been plagued by numerous injury problems, surrendered their lead to lose 3-1 to Leicester City on Saturday as they suffered a third consecutive defeat for the first time since 2014.
Salah is one of the few shining lights in Liverpool's season as he tops the Premier League's scoring chart with 17 goals.
He netted Liverpool's solitary goal against Leicester with a trademark curler into the far corner after a superb assist from Brazilian forward Roberto Firmino.
"It's been a tough period for many reasons. We are champions and we will fight like champions, until the very end," Salah said on his social media accounts.
"We will not allow this season to be defined by the recent results we've had. That is my promise to all of you."
Liverpool lie fourth in the Premier League table with 40 points, 13 behind runaway leaders Manchester City having played one game more.
