The winger has been out of action since rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament in his knee last April.

"We spoke with Trezeguet yesterday, and we knew that he would make his first Villa appearance this season within days," Portuguese boss Queiroz told reporters.

Villa also said on Twitter that Trezeguet would train for another week before taking part in a game with the U23 team.

"He's getting close to making a good comeback," the club said on its Arabic Twitter account.

Trezeguet joined Villa from Turkey's Kasimpasa in the summer of 2019. He scored nine goals in 63 appearances with the club in all competitions, providing five assists.
