Aston Villa's Egyptian winger Mahmoud Trezeguet is set to join Basaksehir on loan, the Turkish Super Lig club's president said on Sunday.

"We have agreed with Aston Villa on the loan transfer of Trezeguet. He will join the team soon," Basaksehir President Goksel Gumusdag was quoted as telling Turkish television channel NTV. He did not provide further details.

Should Trezeguet complete his move to Basaksehir, he will play in Turkey for the second time in his career after spending two seasons on loan at Kasimpasa from 2017-2019.

The 27-year-old joined English Premier League club Aston Villa in the summer of 2019.

He scored seven goals and provided two assists in his first season and netted two goals and dished out as many assists last term.

He was only able to play 11 minutes this season as a serious knee injury that he picked up in April last year disrupted his campaign.

Trezeguet is part of Egypt's squad for the ongoing African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

He came off the bench to score a precious winner in extra time as Egypt came from behind to beat Morocco 2-1 in the tournament's quarter-final on Sunday.
