"First of all, I am very happy and excited to be in such a club. We have big goals ahead of us. The first target ahead of us is the Super Cup. Then there is the Champions League qualifiers. Being in a team that will compete in the Champions League is a special and wonderful feeling for me. I have achieved most of what I aimed for in my career so far. I played in very important teams, in important leagues such as the Premier League and the World Cup. But the Champions League is the competition that I have dreamed of for a long time and I want to be in,” Trezeguet was quoted by Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) during a brief meeting with reporters before Sunday’s training session.
The 27-year-old winger joined the Turkish giants this summer coming from Premier League side Aston Villa.
He joined the team’s base in Slovenia on Saturday for pre-season.
Trezeguet is no foreigner for Turkish football as since he left his boyhood club Ahly in 2016 to join Belgian giants Anderlecht, he had spells at Kasimpasa (2017-2019) and Istanbul Basaksehir (2022) before returning for the third time but at Trabzonspor.
However, throughout his European career, he had never enjoyed the taste of Champions League football.
Trezeguet struggled last season with his fitness trying to recover from a torn anterior cruciate ligament sustained in April 2021 resulting in his loan to Istanbul Basaksehir in an attempt to get more playing time.
He played 10 games and scored six goals for the team seeming to be on his way back to his best.
"I tried to keep myself physically ready throughout the summer. I can say that my fitness is at 80-90 percent now and I hope it will be 100 percent after the work we will do here with the team. I will do my best to reach it and stay so throughout the entire season,” he added.
Trabzonspor will kick off their season against Sivasspor in the Turkish Super Cup on 30 July.
