The future of the 23-year-old player came into doubt recently, especially amid reports claiming that he is on the radar of Spanish and English clubs.

“Till the current moment, we have not reached a solution regarding the renewal for Marmoush,” Schmadtke was quoted as saying as by Aller Zeitung on Wednesday.

Spanish side Espanyol as well as England’s Brentford and Nottingham Forest are monitoring the Egyptian forward, according to Kicker.

“We announced our desire to renew the contract, but the player has not wanted to do so until now. Despite this fact we are sticking with keeping him,” Schmadtke added.

The forward joined Wolfsburg in 2017 from Egypt's Wadi Degla and played with the reserve team till 2020, when he was loaned to FC St. Pauli in January 2021.

In August 2021, he joined Stuttgart, also on loan, where he excelled and helped the team avoid relegation.

During the current season, Marmoush has scored one goal in four appearances so far in all fronts.

Ahead of the season start, Wolfsburg hired former Bayern Munich Croatian coach Kovac who stressed upon his appointment that Marmoush, whose contract is due in the summer of 2023, should stay longer at the club.

Earlier, Marmoush revealed in an interview with Egyptian website Filgoal that he will leave if he did not play regularly. He also said that he dreams of playing in the Premier League.

"I respect my contract with Wolfsburg and that I should always be prepared, however, my target is to play regularly. If they will not give me that chance, I will leave," said Marmoush.
