Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny gave Arsenal a welcome surprise by returning to first-team training on Saturday after two months on the sidelines.

The 30-year-old has been out of action since suffering a hamstring injury in Arsenal's Premier League game against Fulham on 27 August, which marked his only appearance in the competition this season.

"So happy to be back with the boys … Ready to fight," Elneny said in a tweet.

Arsenal are enjoying an impressive Premier League run this term as they lie second in the table with 28 points, just one behind leaders Manchester City, who played a game more.

It is still unclear whether Elneny could play a part in Arsenal's league game against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

The former Basel man took advantage of his time on the sidelines by completing UEFA's B coaching license. He also led a training session for Arsenal's U16 academy side.

Elneny, who was granted a one-year contract extension in the summer, has made 148 appearances for Arsenal in all competitions, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists.
