The Egyptian international secured his work permit and arrived in Lisbon on Tuesday morning to join the rest of the FC Midtjylland squad amid preparations for Thursday’s Europa League clash against the Portuguese side Sporting CP.

“It has not been easy for me to have to wait so long to be allowed to train with the team, especially not before such a big match as on Thursday in the Europa League,” Ashour said in an interview with the club’s official website.

In the dying hours of the recent winter transfer window, the 24-year old Ashour signed a four-year and a half contract with Danish side Midtjylland coming from Cairo giants Zamalek.

“Now I'm finally here, and I'm excited about becoming part of the team,” Ashour, who will be wearing number 10 jersey, added.

Newly signed Ashour stressed that he is ready to contribute to his team’s revival and return back to the top of the 3F Superliga.

“I have been sent a program from the club, which I have followed. Although it has been frustrating not being able to train with the rest of the team, I have kept going and am therefore in good shape,” the player explained.

“I am determined and focused that, together with my new teammates, I must get the club back to where we normally belong in the table,” he concluded.

FC Midtjylland currently ranks 17th on the league table with 23 points, 12 points behind leaders Nordsjaelland.

The talented midfielder has played 102 games with Zamalek, scoring 15 goals and providing 11 assists. He won two Egyptian Premier League titles and one Egypt Cup title with the Cairo giants.

Ashour was a member of Egypt’s U23 squad that won the African Cup of Nations in 2020. He made his debut with the Pharaohs in November 2021, playing nine games.
