Egypt s Ashour enjoys perfect start with Danish side FC Midtjylland
The 24-year-old midfielder made his debut with FC Midtjylland late on Thursday during the 1-1 draw with Portuguese side Sporting CP in the Europa League as he gave his team the lead in the 77th minute before the hosts scored the draw during injury time.
“I very happy after scoring my first goal with Midtjylland,” Ashour told the club’s TV channel after the game.
“I thank all the team’s members for their support as well as giving me big support before the game as I felt at home since my arrival to the team,” the Egyptian star added.
Ashour signed a four-year and half contract with Danish side Midtjylland, hours before the closing of this winter transfer window on 31 January.
“Since my arrival here, the club’s coach sent me a training program and I followed it well and I thank God for his gift,” Ashour said.
FC Midtjylland, who are in the middle of the Danish League table in seventh place with 23 points so far after playing 17 games, are scheduled to face runners-up Viborg FF on Monday.
“We have to forget today’s game so we will concentrate on the coming games to achieve the victory,” the Egyptian midfielder added.
The midfielder has played 102 games with Egyptian Premier League title holders Zamalek, scoring 15 goals and providing 11 assists. He won the Egyptian Premier League twice and Egypt Cup title with the Cairo giants.
Ashour was a member of Egypt’s U23 squad that won the African Cup of Nations in 2020. He made his debut with the Pharaohs in November 2021, playing nine games so far.
