Zamalek's controversial midfielder Mahmoud Abdel-Razek "Shikabala" has joined United Arab Emirates' side Al-Wasl on a one-year loan worth $1.25 million effective from the start of next season, the Egyptian giants announced on Thursday.

"Zamalek concluded the transfer deal of Shikabala to join Al-Wasl for one season on loan," said a statement on the club's official website.

"[We] hope the player can improve himself with his new team next season," it added.

The 26-year-old forward fell from favour at Zamalek after an altercation with coach Hassan Shehata after the latter substituted him during a CAF Champions League match in May.

Shehata submitted his resignation following the incident, but the board rejected it, deciding to show the troublesome player the door instead.

Shikabala was since excluded from Zamalek training sessions. He was also dropped from the Pharaohs' squad for their World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifying campaigns, as well as the team competing in the 2012 London Olympics.
