Egyptian striker Omar Marmoush will leave VfL Wolfsburg at the end of the current Bundesliga season after the club decided not to renew his contract, the German side said on Tuesday.

"In open and honest talks, both parties exchanged their views," VfL sporting director Sebastian Schindzielorz said in a statement.

"No agreement could be reached during these talks, so Omar has decided to look for a new challenge.

"We thank him for his service in the VfL shirt and wish him all the best for the future, both in his career and personal life."

Marmoush has made 34 Bundesliga appearances for Wolfsburg, scoring five goals. He also played one Europa League match and five DFB Cup games, scoring once.

"I had a good time in Wolfsburg and I thank the management for the opportunities they’ve given me to continue my development, including with the two loans," Marmoush said.

"However, it’s now time for the next step for me. I will give my all until the end of the season to help the team achieve our goals."

Marmoush, 24, joined Wolfsburg in 2017 and made his debut for the first team in May 2020 against Bayer Leverkusen. He spent time on loan at St Pauli and VfB Stuttgart over the last two seasons to gain experience.
