Newly-joined Mido to miss Barnsley’s season starter after sustaining torn hamstring injury

Egypt striker Ahmed Hossam ‘Mido’ who joined English Championship side Bransley, sustained a serious injury Saturday and will be ruled out for 5 to 15 weeks.

The 29-year-old forward sustained “torn hamstring during the warm-up of Doncaster Rovers pre-season friendly”, according to the club’s official website.

The former Middleborough, Wigan and West Ham started his career abroad at Belgium side Ghent in 2000 and he presented a string of strong performances with Ajax (the Netherlands), Marseille (France), Celta Vigo (Spain) and Tottenham (England).

He left Egyptian side Zamalek in the summer after falling out with the club’s chairman over unpaid salaries.

He played for the Egyptian national team from 2001, scoring 20 goals in 51 appearances.
