Aston Villa sign Egyptian winger Omar Khedr from Zed FC
According to Villa’s official website, the 17-year old Khedr has already signed a pre-contract with the club, but he will be joining officially on 1st July 2024 when he turns 18.
The club also said that the player will be signing a long-term deal once he joins the Villans next year.
Khedr’s signing is the first deal between Villa and the Egyptian club as both sides signed a collaboration agreement earlier this year.
Villa hailed the signing of Khedr; stressing that he is a great addition for the club.
“Highly sought after, Khedr’s signature is a significant coup for Aston Villa’s Academy, with the Egyptian Under-17 international attracting attention and admiring glances from clubs across the continent and further afield,” the premier league club declared in a statement.
The English club revealed that Khedr spent a time at the club’s training center earlier this month, meeting the first-team stars as well as club former legend and countryman Ahmed Elmohamady.
Zed FC will be competing in the Egyptian Premier League, the top-flight football league in Egypt, next season for the first time ever.
Aston Villa ended last season in 7th place at the Premier League table with 61 points, 28 behind champions Manchester City.
