Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah was awarded the man of the match award by FC Basel fans following an impressive performance against FC Thun 3-1 in the Swiss league on Sunday.
The 20-year-old forward earned his first start and more than justified his selection. He won a penalty allowing his side to score the first goal and was also involved in the other two goals.
FC Basel secured its second victory of the season and climbed to second place in the table, 9 points adrift of leaders FC Sion.
The former Arab Contractors player was the top choice of the fans with 5.36 votes, ahead of Marco Streller 4.95 and Yann Sommer 4.60.
The gifted left-footed winger, who is seen as Egypt’s hottest prospect, is expected to make the starting XI on Saturday when FC Basel host Lausanne at St. Jakob-Park.
