Egyptian striker Mohamed Sherif has revealed that Saudi team Khaleej FC had attempted to sign him from Ahly during the previous season before securing his transfer this summer.

"Khaleej is one of the big clubs in Saudi Arabia and we hope for a good season," Sherif told Saudi media.

"They wanted to sign me last season, but it didn't happen. It worked out this season."

The forward, who moved to Khaleej in this transfer window, added, "I haven't felt out of place since my first day at the club. I feel like one of them and I hope to live up to everyone's expectations."

He is yet to make his debut for Khaleej as he continues preparations after resting following the end of last season with Egyptian champions Ahly.

Sherif joined Ahly in January 2018 from Wadi Degla and established himself as a key player in the team until claiming the top scorer's award in 2021.

However, he fell down the pecking order under coach Marcel Koller as Mahmoud "Kahraba" Abdel-Moneim became his number-one choice.
