Salah, 31, made a triumphant return, scoring a goal in Liverpool's dominant win over Brentford as they continue their charge for the Premier League title despite numerous injuries.

Coming off the bench to replace the injured Diogo Jota, Salah made his first appearance for Liverpool since their win over Newcastle on New Year's Day.

"I'm not surprised about that, to be honest. Mo played his first game in weeks, maybe even months, I'm not sure," Klopp was quoted as saying on Liverpool's official website after the match.

"I think [Salah] could have had a hat-trick. I don't know about the first chance, but Lucho [Luis Diaz] kicked the ball against his right foot, and the other Mo usually finishes that off, but the goalkeeper was outstanding," he added.

After recovering from a hamstring injury sustained while on duty with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, Salah made up for lost time by scoring his first goal for Liverpool since the Newcastle game.

This goal, his 19th in all competitions this season, set Liverpool on course for their sixth win in their last seven league games.

Liverpool currently lead the English Premier League with 57 points, two points ahead of second-placed Arsenal and four points ahead of reigning champions Manchester City, who are in third place with a game in hand.
