The Pharaohs skipper Salah fired Liverpool to the top of the English Premier League after scoring the winner in the team's 2-1 victory over Brighton.
“Liverpool are relentless when they come forward, especially at Anfield, and they kept on creating chances - Alexis Mac Allister was magnificent in midfield,” Alan Shearer told BBC’s Match of the Day programme on Monday.
“Mohamed Salah had one of those days where he was shooting at every opportunity, but when myself, Gary Lineker and Glenn Murray were watching for MOTD2, all three of us as former strikers thought it was only a matter of time before one of them went in,” the former Newcastle striker added.
According to OptaJoe stats, Salah had 12 shots against Brighton; his most ever in a Premier League game and the most on record (from 2003-04) by a Liverpool player in a match in the competition.
Salah’s shots are also the most by any player in the English top-flight since Zlatan Ibrahimovic v Burnley in October 2016 (12).
Shearer heaped praise on Salah’s persistence adding: "The sign of a great goalscorer is that you are never bothered when you are missing chances because you still believe you are going to get a goal."
“That was the case with Salah. It took him nine attempts to score, but it turned out to be the winner and that's the one that matters,” he concluded.
Salah's goal against Brighton is his third in the last three games and his 22nd in all competitions this season.
