The 32‐year‐old forward gave Arne Slot’s table‐topping side the lead with a 30th‐minute penalty before curling an exquisite effort past Kepa Arrizabalaga with 15 minutes remaining at the Vitality Stadium.
Salah’s 177th and 178th Premier League goals enabled him to leapfrog Chelsea legend Frank Lampard – following his recent move past eighth‐placed Thierry Henry with his strike against Ipswich Town.
Moreover, he has become the first player to score 20 goals in Europe's top five leagues this season.
The Egyptian has maintained his scintillating form with the Reds this season, having scored 25 goals and provided 17 assists across all competitions.
His second goal on Saturday marked the 300th of his career, with his tally distributed as follows: 235 for Liverpool, 34 for Roma, 20 for Basel, 9 for Fiorentina and 2 for Chelsea.
Salah now leads Manchester City’s Erling Haaland by three goals and Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak by four in the race for the Golden Boot – the forward having also contributed 13 assists.
Salah is the second-highest-scoring overseas player in the competition’s history – behind only Sergio Agüero’s 184 strikes – while Alan Shearer remains the Premier League’s all-time top scorer with 260 goals.
In the final six months of his contract on Merseyside, the Egyptian international is free to negotiate with non-English clubs and could sign a pre-contract agreement that sees him join a new team the day after his current deal expires.
He has been linked with a host of clubs, including Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi side Al-Hilal, who are reportedly preparing a mega deal to lure the Egyptian to Saudi Arabia.
According to reports, the Saudi Pro League champions have tabled a staggering two-year contract worth £65 million – equivalent to £625,000 per week.
