The 33-year-old achieved his highest-ever placing after being left off the final 30-man shortlist in 2024.

Salah placed fourth in the Ballon d’Or voting, ranking behind Paris St-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé, Vitinha and Barcelona's Lamine Yamal.

However, he comes of Raphinha (5th, Barcelona), Achraf Hakimi (6th, PSG) and Kylian Mbappé (7th, Real Madrid)

His first appeared on the Ballon d’Or list in 2018, when he finished sixth.

He had previously finished 11th in 2023 and seventh in 2021, while his best ranking was fifth in both 2019 and 2022.

The Egyptian forward scored 29 goals and registered 18 assists to help Liverpool secure a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title with four games to spare last season.

Last season, Salah became the first player to win the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Men’s Player of the Year award three times, having previously claimed it in 2017/18 and 2021/22.
