Egypt and Fiorentina injured defender Ahmed Hegazy got the green light to return gradually for training sessions, the Italian club announced on Tuesday.

The Egyptian stopper has been out of action since undergoing a successful knee to repair a torn knee ligament last December.

It was a huge blow for the 21-year-old player, who only made his debut with Viola three weeks before being injured since joining them in the summer from Egypt's Ismaily.

Initial medical reports said that the player will not be available for at least five months, but it seems that he could be ready for training session soon.

"Prof. Pier Paolo Mariani examined Hegazy saying he is recovering well," Fiorentina said in a statement on their official website.

"The doctor gave the player the green light to start a gradual return for the trainings," the statement added without giving any further details.

Despite the blow Hegazy's absence dealt for Fiorentina defence, the Italian club refused to sign an alternative during the winter transfer window last January.
