Egypt and Bani Yas forward Mohamed Zidan said he needs at least four weeks of rehabilitation to recover from cartilage surgery that he underwent two days ago in the United Arab Emirates.

"I have suffered from cartilage problems since I played for Bani Yas last January. The club's management thought I was only pretending to be injured," Zidan told UAE newspaper Al-Bayan on Thursday.

"I underwent surgery at my own expense after the club refused to help me recover," he added.

The 31-year-old, who joined Bani Yas last summer, was omitted from the team's squad for the rest of the season after the club signed Zidan's fellow Egyptian, Mohamed Abou-Treika, on a six-month loan deal.

Zidan joined Bani Yas in the summer after spending 12 years in Europe playing for Borussia Dortmund, Werder Bremen, Hamburg and Mainz in the Bundesliga.
