English League One side Swindon Town have completed the signing of Egyptian forward Mohamed El-Gabbas until January 2014 with an option to extend the deal for 18 months.

El-Gabbas was out of contract after ending a four-year spell with Belgian side Lierse in the summer.

He was keen to return to England where he enjoyed a stint at Newcastle's youth academy, before returning to Egypt after failing to obtain a work permit to stay in England.

The 25-year-old’s representative claimed that his client was on the radar of a number of English Premier League and Championship clubs.

"It’s a nice town, it’s a family club where everyone knows each other," El-Gabbas told Swindon Town’s official website on Saturday.

"I’ve heard about the club’s history before I came. They’re trying to get to the Championship - this is a good ambition and I hope I can help them," he added.

El-Gabbas went on to describe his playing style, which he said resembles that of Frenchman Thierry Henry and Spanish striker David Villa.

"I’m not a big target striker like Zlatan Ibrahimovic for example. I’m more like Thierry Henry or David Villa who can run in the space and try to make it hard for defenders by running in the space,"

"I can also play as a winger on both sides." El-Gabbas concluded.

Swindon Town Football Club is an English association football club based in Swindon, Wiltshire. They play in League One, the third tier of English football.
