“I want to play in Europe with Sunderland. The Europa League, if we cannot do it this season, hopefully next,” Elmohamady, Egypts winger was quoted as saying by English newspaper the JournalLive on Saturday.

The Black Cats lie eighth in the league table with 38 points, 10 behind the fifth place, which earns automatic qualification for Europe’s secondary club competition.

Sunderland, an English Premier League Club, may also qualify for the competition if they finished sixth.

“We are not far off,” says Elmohamady “If we carry on believing in ourselves we can do it.”

The 23-year-old joined Sunderland last summer on loan from Egyptian club ENPPI before earning a permanent deal at the club after a string of fine displays in the elite Premier League.

“I am happy to know I will be coming back to Sunderland next season, hopefully for the next three years,” the Pharaohs star added.

“I did not know what to expect when I came to Sunderland, the club or the area, but everything has been perfect.”

“The club, my teammates, the manager and the supporters. I have no problem living in England - not even with the weather!”

Although Elmohamady didn’t take long to settle in England one thing did shock him.

“...the only thing I was really surprised by was the snow,” he commented.

“It was the first time that I had ever seen it!”

“It was a bit of a shock at first [the move to England]. It is a lot colder and English football is a different style,”

Sunderland’s coach Steve Bruce believes in the Egyptian’s abilities as a winger, but the player sees his best position in another place.

“It is the first time I have played as a winger,” Elmohamady said.

“I still think I am better at right-back, that is where I play for Egypt, but we play 3-5-2 so I am free to get forward.”

“I am more comfortable at right-back, but I am learning how to play on the wing.

“It is good to be able to play in more than one position,” he concluded.
