Dortmund's Egyptian striker Mohamed Zidan
Egypt and Dortmund striker Mohamed Zidan came off the bench in the 69th minute but couldn’t help the Bundesliga leaders seal their home victory as Mainz clinched a well-deserved point after a 1-1 draw on Saturday.
Petar Sliskovic scored a late equaliser in the 89th minute to cancel Mats Hummels’ early lead after 8 minutes, cutting their lead at the top to ten points.
Zidan replaced Kuba mid-way through the second half to help restore the hosts’ command, but he couldn’t create any real chances and failed to threaten the opposing side.
The 29-year old striker who has just recovered from his latest setback has only played a handful of matches this season after a cruciate knee ligament then a back injury then a hard knock last February – resulting in broken ribs – saw him seated on the bench for the majority of the season.
However, he has been included in Egypt’s squad set to take on South Africa next Saturday in a crucial 2012 African Cup of Nations qualifier.
