Premier League side Newcastle United may reportedly place a bid to sign Egyptian flamboyant winger Mohamed Salah from FC Basel this January.

Sky Sports reported on Monday that some inside sources have revealed that the staff and the board are considering making a bid for the Liverpool target.

Newcastle are currently at 8th place in the Premier League and hope to climb further in the table to at least secure a spot in next season's Europa League.

Salah, 21, has been a firm target for Liverpool, but the deal has been hampered due to financial differences.

The Egyptian international player is reportedly valued at £12m, while the Reds' bid stands at £8m.

Salah has proven to be one of the most promising players in Europe after leading Basel to the local double last season, his first in Europe. His stellar play earned him 2013's Swiss Golden Player Award, given to the best player in Switzerland.
