Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah made his Chelsea debut in their 3-0 victory over Newcastle United in the English Premier League on Saturday.

The former Basel man came on as a second-half substitute, replacing Brazilian winger Willian in the 78th minute.

He was unlucky not to open his account, wasting two gilt-edged chances as he demonstrated his ability to cause menace to opponents on the break.

Salah wasted his first chance in the 86th minute when he could only shoot across the goal from a tight angle after being fed by Andre Schurrle.

He got an even better chance one minute later when he broke clear after running onto a deft pass from Brazilian playmaker Oscar but he could only shoot straight at goalkeeper Tim Krul.

Salah, 21, joined Chelsea from Swiss side Basel last month on a five-and-a-half year deal for a reported fee of €13 million after the Blues beat off competition from English Premier League rivals Liverpool.
