Aneke represented England at youth level
Arsenal’s hot prospect Chuks Aneke has promised Nigeria coach Samson Siasia to play for his country of origin.
"They came to meet me at my hotel and we discussed. He was worried about stories he had heard about the treatment of players in Nigeria, but I assured him that things were changing, the new federation are taking players’ welfare very seriously and the whole set up is being run professionally,” Siasia told the website kickoff.com.
"After that, he assured me that he would play for Nigeria, and I must say we are happy to get such an incredible talent."
Siasia has made a tour of Europe since taking over the Nigerian team last November, seeking to convince European-based players with Nigerian origins to represent their country.
He talked with several players in the Premier League, including Aneke and Sunderland’s Nedum Onuoha.
Aneke, a gifted midfielder who will turn 18 next July, played for England's U-17s and is a pure product of Arsenal’s youth system.
He signed a professional contract with the Gunners last summer and broke into the reserves team last season.
