Ghana coach Orlando Wellington believes his team still has a chance of qualifying for the semi-finals of the African Youth Championship and reaching the FIFA U-20 World Cup next summer in Colombia

World champions Ghana had a catastrophic start to their African title defence campaign after losing to Nigeria and conceding a 1-1 draw against a 10-man Gambia on Thursday.

“We are disappointed by the results. I told you coming into this game that Gambia will not be a pushover. With 10 men they succeeded in having a draw against us. However, we still have a chance to qualify.” Wellington was quoted as saying on the Confederation of African Football's official website.

Despite these poor results, Ghana's coach is still optimistic about the Satellites' chances to go through to the semi-final.

"We still have a game at hand and there is still a chance to qualify for the World Cup’’ he said.

Ghana will be in a must-win situation when they meet group leaders Cameroon on Sunday to keep their chances alive.
